In the first four months of 2024, the export of Andean grains, including quinoa, giant corn, chia, kiwicha, tarwi, and cañihua, saw a significant increase of 42.5% from the previous year, reaching a value of 42.6 million dollars. This growth is attributed to the high nutritional value of these superfoods, with quinoa alone bringing in 35 million dollars. The United States, the European Union, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Japan are the primary markets for these exports. A notable 70% increase in sales to the US and a 57.5% increase in sales to Japan were observed. The Ayacucho region was the largest contributor to these exports, accounting for 67.9% of the total. To further boost the export of these grains, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) is implementing the Export Productive Route (RPE) strategy, providing services and support to quinoa organizations in Puno, Cusco, and Ayacucho.
