Over these two decades, the entity has been working to increase the consumption of mangoes -of any origin- in the United States. The NMB is an agricultural promotion and research body that operates under the auspices of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). It was formed by members of the mango industry in 2005. Ramón Ojeda, executive director of the NMB, pointed out that his organization is maintained with funding quotas contributed by mango importers and domestic producers. It has around a US$ 10 million budget per year that comes from the industry itself, and these funds are used for research (in harvesting and post-harvest stages) and promotion (flavorful fruit, with nutritional properties, beneficial for health, appearance, culture, and versatility in both culinary recipes and beverages) to increase mango consumption in the United States.
