Nepal has achieved domestic self-sufficiency in meat products, including young male and castrated male goats, roosters, hens, and fish, in time for the major festival, Dashain. Approximately 200,000 young male goats are shipped to Kathmandu each year, with about half of this number being shipped during the festival. The country has stopped importing meat from other countries for Dashain. Fresh mutton is being supplied to Kathmandu from various regions in southern and northern Nepal.
