A new ordinance, Ordinance No. 570, has been implemented by Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock effective from January 1st to regulate the classification of roasted coffee products. This move aims to ensure product quality, hygiene, and consumer safety by mandating detailed information on the packaging, such as the type of coffee and roasting point. It also imposes shared responsibility for selling adulterated coffee between producers and retailers, and allows consumer protection agencies to act on fraud complaints. Roasting plants are required to register with the Ministry and have the flexibility to outsource product classification. The ordinance also permits direct sellers to optionally present the Classification Document, ensuring product compliance.
