Several organizations in Long Island, New York are working to boost sugar kelp cultivation due to overharvesting, while NOAA Fisheries is partnering with the Greater Farallones Association to rejuvenate bull kelp forests. The Greater Farallones Association has been awarded USD 4.9 million to conduct research, remove purple sea urchins, restore kelp forests, and support local jobs. The first in-person Seagriculture Asia-Pacific conference will take place in Adelaide, Australia in 2025, and Florida Atlantic University has been granted USD 1.3 million to remove sargassum from Florida's seaweed belt. Additionally, researchers at the Technical University of Munich are developing seaweed microbots that could be used for treatments for cancer and other diseases.
