Nigeria is the world's leading producer of yams, accounting for over 70% of the global crop, according to the National Root Crops Research Institute. The country also leads in the production of cassava and sweet potato, with 34 and 59 tons respectively. The institute's Director, Nnamdi Eke-Okoro, has called on relevant authorities and stakeholders to help meet global export standards. He also emphasized the role of the institute in speeding up the yam export process and reducing rejections of Nigerian products abroad.
