The Gyeongbuk Marine Resources Research Institute released 150,000 healthy young abalones for free into five fishing communities (seven fishing villages) in the coastal area of Yeongdeok County, which was affected by forest fires, on the 19th, in order to restore the local ecosystem and increase the income of local fishermen. The young abalones released this time were harvested in April of last year and underwent 20 months of systematic breeding management and water quality improvement processes, growing to a size of at least 3.5 cm per shell. They are healthy individuals that have passed a pre-release inspection for aquatic animal infectious diseases, ensuring their safety as superior seeds. The release sites include Gyeongjeong 1-ri, Gyeongjeong 2-ri, Gyeongjeong 3-ri, Seok-ri, and Nomul-ri (Daetan-ri and Obo-ri), all of which are fishing communities in the forest fire-affected areas of Yeongdeok County.
