A new trade deal between Kenya and the United Arab Emirates, known as the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, is set to boost the meat export market for livestock farmers in northern Kenya. This agreement was announced during a County Investment Conference in Lamu County, which was attended by representatives from the counties of Lamu, Tana River, Garissa, Wajir and Mandera. The ministry is planning to support the agriculture and livestock sector by providing support to individual farmers and MSMEs, and by attracting local and international investors to establish abattoirs and processing plants in the region. The conference aimed to explore the investment potential of northern Kenya and included strategies for adding value to livestock products for international sales and exports.
