At the 2024 Norway-China Seafood Summit, the Norwegian Seafood Council's Sigmund Bjorgo reported a 43% growth in Norway's seafood exports to China, highlighting it as the fastest-growing salmon market globally. Despite China's economic slowdown, seafood exports, especially salmon, have been resilient, with a 12% increase in fresh salmon consumption by September 2024. Norway's seafood exports to China reached 6.6 billion NOK, with a 3% increase in value and 16% in volume from the previous year. While salmon export value fell due to lower prices, whitefish export value rose by 19%. The Norwegian Seafood Council aims to boost market influence through social media and partnerships, targeting young, affluent Chinese consumers. The summit coincided with the Qingdao exhibition, which had a record 370 participants, highlighting the strong seafood trade between the two countries.
