The article highlights the efforts of David Granieri, representing Coldiretti and Unaprol, to combat fraud and counterfeiting in the olive oil industry through a European telematic registration and traceability system. This system is aimed at ensuring the quality and transparency of extra virgin olive oil and protecting both consumers and honest producers from unfair competition and deceptive practices. The proposal includes the creation of a Single Telematic Register, similar to the Italian SIAN model, to digitally trace each stage of production and enhance the reputation of European extra virgin olive oil on the international stage. Additionally, the article discusses the need for fair competition, the review of tariff quota agreements, and the importance of adhering to European standards on food safety and environmental sustainability.
