Unlike fruits like apples or pears with thousands of years of cultivation history, kiwis are a relatively new fruit that has been commercialized for less than 100 years. It is known that in 1904, a missionary brought seeds from Hubei Province, China to New Zealand and cultivated them as ornamental plants, which is considered the beginning of kiwi cultivation. In Korea, kiwis were first introduced in the late 1970s and began to be cultivated in earnest in the 1980s. With the introduction of New Zealand's gold kiwis in the 2000s, variety breeding research became active, and varieties with diverse tastes and colors have been continuously developed.
