Aminul Islam and his four partners are successfully cultivating malta on 7.22 hectares of land in Rajshahi, Bangladesh, as part of a new agricultural trend. Starting in 2017, they have grown their operation to include 4,500 trees, drawn by the plant's longevity and lower maintenance and pesticide needs compared to guava. Despite losing 400 trees due to cyclone Amphan, they remain hopeful for higher sales this year. This trend is being adopted by many farmers in the Barind region, with 148 hectares dedicated to malta cultivation in the past year, leading to a yield of 222 tonnes. The Department of Agricultural Extension is supporting this new venture, highlighting its potential for financial growth in the area. However, the cultivation of malta requires dedicated and careful farmers to ensure success.
