Organic sugar cane as an alternative to bananas in Peru

Many Peruvian banana growers have a hard time making ends meet because of the low price of the fruit. Banana cooperatives are therefore not only looking for new markets, but also for alternative crops. The commercial manager of Cooperativa Agraria Norandino, Santiago Paz López, proposes organic sugar cane. "Sugar cane is a resistant crop, the switch to that cultivation is quite easy, and most importantly, the production is profitable," says Santiago Paz.
