The European environmental research institute, JRC, has predicted an increase in the average wheat production by 3% compared to the previous year and 3% higher than the five-year average. The institute also anticipates similar yields for winter barley as last year, with a 6% increase in rapeseed yields compared to the five-year average. However, JRC has warned of potential drought risks for the upcoming growing season, particularly in southern Spain, Portugal, and northern and central Italy. Many fields in Central Europe, including Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, and Austria, have good current conditions but require more precipitation to meet the moisture needs of the crops during the growing season.
