Over 20 years, Russia has increased coffee imports 11 times

Tea imports to Russia from 2002 to 2022 decreased by 24% to 125.2 thousand tons, while coffee supplies increased 11 times to 295.4 thousand tons, according to a study by Rosselkhozbank (available from Agroinvestor ”, prepared for World Coffee Day (September 29). The ratio of coffee and tea imports in 2002 was less than 1 to 5 (0.16). But then coffee imports increased year after year, while tea imports decreased. In 2016, from a country importing primarily tea, Russia turned into a country purchasing abroad primarily coffee: the ratio increased by 4% in favor of the latter. Then it increased and at the end of 2022, coffee supplies exceeded tea imports by 2.36 times. In the first seven months of 2023, coffee imports amounted to 158 thousand tons, which is 20% more than in the same period last year.
