Over 30,000 new seed samples from 23 depositors in 21 countries and seven international gene banks have been deposited into the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, marking the highest number of depositors since 2020. The seeds aim to conserve crop diversity due to climate change, conflicts, and more. Notable contributions include the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) depositing 2,950 seeds from 56 species, the Universidad Mayor Real y Pontificia de San Francisco Xavier de Chuquisaca making Bolivia's inaugural deposit of maize and bean varieties, and the International Rice Research Institute in the Philippines contributing over 7,000 rice samples. The Institut Tchadien de Recherche Agronomique pour le Développement in Chad has also deposited over 1,000 samples of sesame, rice, maize, and sorghum.
