Ishwardi upazila in Pabna, Bangladesh, is experiencing a significant decrease in lychee production due to a severe drought caused by rainfall shortage. The agriculture department's production target of 20,000 tons may be reduced by one-third as a result. The lack of wholesale traders in Dhaka and other regions due to movement restrictions from the Covid-19 outbreak is further affecting the marketing of the fruit. Despite these challenges, some farmers have reported good yields. However, the lack of transportation and low demand due to the pandemic have resulted in wholesalers refraining from purchasing orchards. The article also highlights concerns about potential loss due to excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides.
