The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has passed a law limiting the use of palm oil in food products, with 293 deputies in favor of the legislation. The law also restricts the use of hydrogenated vegetable fats, oils, and trans fats in children's food. It also mandates the mandatory labeling of food products containing refined oils of vegetable origin. The law is a response to concerns about the health risks of palm oil, particularly its link to obesity and chronic diseases, as concluded by the World Health Organization. The law will now be enforced, and companies using dangerous trans fats, which are known to cause oncology and cardiovascular diseases, will face penalties.
