Paraguay has declared an Animal Health Emergency due to five confirmed cases of avian flu in the Paraguayan Chaco, requested by Senacsa. The decree, signed by President Mario Abdo Benítez, will last for six months from May 20. The National Animal Health Emergency System has been activated to prevent the introduction and spread of exotic diseases, and to eradicate them efficiently. The first outbreak was reported in the district of Mariscal Estigarribia, department of Boquerón, and has since spread to five other locations, with 36 suspected cases and 123 animals sampled.
