In January 2024, rice exports from Brazil experienced a 13.4% decrease in volume to 599,200 tons, but a 13.9% increase in value to $336.8 million, largely due to a rise in international rice prices. The weighted average price per ton rose from $427.3 in the first eight months of 2023 to $562.2 in the same period in 2024, leading to additional revenue of $79.7 million. Despite a decrease in the volume of white or semi-white rice exports, revenue increased by 19.1%. Husked rice exports also saw an increase in revenue, by $13.5 million, despite a decrease in volume. The production of rice in Brazil for the 2023/2024 marketing year is estimated to be 20.9% lower than the previous harvest, largely due to November 2023 floods. The global rice market was also impacted by India's ban on non-Bamati white rice exports in July 2023.
