Paraná: Tangerine Production Advances with Good Harvest and Price Drop

Paraná has begun the tangerine harvest with good production prospects, even in the face of falling prices paid to producers. According to the Agricultural Situation Bulletin released this Thursday (15th) by the Rural Economic Department (Deral), the harvest has already reached between 15% and 20% of the expected volume, with a constant pace since the first half of April. "Climatic conditions favored the start of the harvest, with well-distributed rains that anticipated fruit maturation and the conversion of acids into sugars," reported the Deral technical team. According to analysts, established orchards and new plantings show good crop load, a result of citrus farmers' investment in fertilization and management, even in the face of rising production costs. Cerro Azul, in the Ribeira Valley, remains the main tangerine producer in Brazil, accounting for 9.3% of national production and 9.2% of the Gross Production Value (VBP).
