Peru is the world's second-largest avocado exporter, with challenges such as climatic conditions affecting the fruit's quality and size. Fluctuante, in response, held a webinar to analyze the past, present, and future of Peruvian avocado production. Alonso Puga, the general manager of Proserla, discussed the impacts of high temperatures and rain on avocado production and the need for soil care and potential plant cover use to maintain healthy roots. The industry also faces the challenge of cadmium in avocados, with the requirement being no closer to 0.5% for export to Europe. The majority of avocado distribution in Peru is in La Libertad, Lima, Ica, and Lambayeque, and there has been a decline in shipments, especially to the United States and Europe.
