Canada: P.E.I. lobster fishers are allowed to head out on May 5, 2024

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) announced on May 3 that P.E.I. lobster fishers on the north shore can go out on May 5. That affects lobster fishers in Lobster Fishing Area (LFA) 24. The lobster season opens at 6 a.m. on May 5 and the last day of fishing will be on July 4. DFO wishes to remind fish harvesters to take extra care when navigating on the opening day of the lobster fishery as vessels are loaded with gear and traps. Harvesters are encouraged to act diligently in setting their traps and should ensure that vessels are loaded safely by reducing the quantity of gear, if necessary.
