Peru and Ethiopia lead the world production of organic coffee

(Agraria.pe) Peru and Ethiopia have become in recent years the world leaders in the supply of organic coffee, cultivated 95% by small farmers, according to reports corresponding to the year 2020 provided by the official certification entities, and recently systematized by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture (IFOAM) and the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL), based in Switzerland. According to these entities, Ethiopia, the African country where coffee originated, has 183,000 certified hectares, while Peru registers 169,078 hectares, according to official information provided by the Ministry of Agrarian Development (MIDAGRI), through the System National Agricultural Health (SENASA). The sum of such areas represents 45.81% of the world production of organic coffee, considered in 768,445 hectares.
