The global market for fresh onions is volatile due to major climatic events in producing countries, resulting in a 13% drop in export volume and 4% in value for Peru between January and October 2023. Despite limited stocks and stable demand, the price of onions has increased by 11% to $0.40 per kilogram, but this was not enough to offset the drop in export volume. The United States remained the main destination for Peruvian onions, with healthy demand and an 8% increase in price, while the European market saw a positive impact with Peruvian onion shipments growing by 70% and prices increasing by 24%.
