Peru exported pineapple worth US$ 4.2 million in October of this year, 12 times more than in the same month of 2023

(Agraria.pe) The outlook for Peruvian pineapple exports has been adapting favorably over the years. In 2017, production faced difficulties with irregular quality that did not meet international standards. However, with improvements in the sector, in 2020 pineapple exports reached US$ 4.1 million, marking an important advance in the competitiveness of the sector. The difference for this year is clear, such is the case that in October 2024 shipments were recorded for US$ 4.2 million, 12 times more than in October 2023. Likewise, the volume for this period was 1,390 tons, 19 times higher than that sent in the same period in 2023. However, the average price fell from US$ 4.84 to US$ 2.99 per kilogram, which represented a decrease of 38.3%. The pineapple presentations sent were canned (43.9%), dehydrated (30.4%), frozen (20.3%), puree (4.5%), cut (0.9%) and juice (0.1%).
