In 2020, Peru was the third-largest producer of passion fruit in South America, accounting for 8.45% of the global production with a harvest of 80,219 tons. The majority of this production, nearly 80%, was cultivated in the coastal region, with Lima being the leading region. Peru is the largest exporter of passion fruit, with over 90% of its production being exported mainly to the Netherlands as concentrated juices. Despite facing a 6.68% decrease in exports in 2020 compared to the previous year, global passion fruit imports increased by 4% to €96,067,000, with the Netherlands and the United States being the primary importers. The Peruvian passion fruit season, which lasts from December to May, provides a unique market opportunity as it overlaps less with the production seasons of Brazil, Colombia, and Ecuador.
