The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) of Peru, through its National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa), has temporarily halted the import of certain fresh fruits from Chile, including nectarines, cherries, plumcots, peaches, plums, apricots, and apples, due to concerns over the Grapholita molesta pest, also known as the Oriental peach moth. This decision, encapsulated in Directorial Resolution No. 014-2024-MIDAGRI-SENASA-DSV, follows the Plant Quarantine Regulation to prevent the pest's entry and proliferation in Peru. The suspension is pending further pest risk analysis and discussions with Chilean authorities to establish new phytosanitary measures for the safe importation of these fruits.
