Peru is the world's largest exporter of chili peppers, with over 350 varieties grown across 24 departments. The country celebrated its first 'Peruvian Chili Pepper Day' in September, aiming to boost knowledge about chili peppers and enhance the commercial positioning of farmers. In 2023, Peru's paprika chili pepper exports saw a 6% increase in volume and a 33% increase in value, reaching 37,756 tons worth S 149 million. The production of various chili pepper varieties is concentrated in different regions, leading to a national consumption of five kilos per capita annually, placing Peru as the continent's second-largest consumer, following Mexico.
