Despite the challenges of Covid-19, the Peruvian cocoa sector has shown resilience and adaptability, with small producers quickly responding to production, processing, and marketing activities. In 2020, the sector exported 80,804 tons of cocoa, earning US $ 279 million, with the Netherlands being the main importer of cocoa beans. The sector plays a crucial role in the economic reactivation of the country, benefiting over 90,000 families and about 450,000 people indirectly. Cocoa production in Peru is sustainable and focuses on zero deforestation, gender equality, and decent income, in line with the National Cocoa Development Plan. The sector plans to meet international market demands by continuing to develop production chains and complying with new standards. The 'Day of Peruvian Cocoa and Chocolate' is celebrated to highlight the work of producers and the unique characteristics of Peruvian cocoa.
