From January to August of this year, Peru saw a significant increase in Castile bean exports, with a total revenue of almost US $ 20.26 million, a 117% increase compared to the same period in 2020. The United States was the primary market for these beans, followed by South Korea, the United Kingdom, Greece, Portugal, Spain, and Colombia. This surge in bean exports is attributed to shifting consumer preferences towards fresh food due to the pandemic. In 2020, the average FOB price of Peruvian Castilla beans increased by 10.1%, with the highest price in New Zealand and the lowest in Colombia. These beans are commonly sold in supermarkets, often in plastic bags or cans.
