The National Quality Institute (Inacal) has established a Technical Subcommittee for Pitahaya Standardization in order to enhance the competitiveness and marketing of pitahaya in domestic and international markets. The subcommittee aims to develop quality standards for the pitahaya production chain, as the fruit's export potential is growing due to its nutritional and antioxidant properties, which has attracted consumer interest. In Peru, pitahaya production has increased, with Lima and Amazonas being the regions with the highest production, and the demand for pitahaya as a fresh fruit is rising, particularly in destinations like Aruba, France, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain.
