Brazilian researchers have conducted a comprehensive study on macadamia diseases in Brazil, identifying the main threats to the crop and proposing solutions for managing these diseases. The study identified the following diseases as the most harmful to macadamia: blight of the racemes, trunk rot, anthracnose in the fruits and leaf spot. The research suggested essential practices to prevent and control these diseases and also identified chemical groups to which fungi are sensitive, paving the way for the use of pesticides. Macadamia production in Brazil, although it represents only 2% of global production, is expanding and has great potential for growth with adequate disease management.
