Poland: Plum stagnation, larger harvests, or is it imports to blame?

After the spring frosts, plum prices are very disappointing. The market has been saturated with imported fruit for weeks. The lower plum harvest this year has not been compensated for in any way by higher prices. The market situation has not changed for a long time. Purchase prices are literally "frozen". In producer groups in the Grójec basin, the price has been most often at the level of PLN 3.00/kg for a long time. This applies to purple varieties above 32 mm in diameter. As we remember, purchase started at PLN 3.50/kg. During the peak of Cacanska Lepotica deliveries, the prices dropped to PLN 2.50 - 2.80/kg. Then we noted slight increases. Although the harvest of most varieties is much smaller than a year ago, the situation on wholesale markets does not confirm this either. For about 2 weeks, prices for high-quality varieties in the Hungarian type have usually been PLN 4.00/kg. Lesser-known varieties are around PLN 3.00/kg.
