In 2022, Russia's pork production is projected to reach 5.76 million tons, an increase of 275.5 thousand tons from 2021, due to domestic consumption which has increased by 242.2 thousand tons. However, red meat consumption has decreased. The price of grade 1 and 2 pork has fallen by 5.8% due to oversupply, and the government's support for the poor and reduction in the price gap between pork and poultry. The Russian pork industry plans to shift from import substitution to export strategy, with a goal to become one of the top five global pork export markets within the next 10 years. This shift will require producers to research mainstream markets, invest in freezing and storage capabilities, and phase out small producers.
