In 2023, the port of Essaouira in Morocco experienced a 23% increase in coastal and artisanal fishing product landings, totaling 20,046 Tonnes, a significant rise from 16,303 T in 2022. The market value of these catches also increased by 23% to 212.956 million dirhams. There were notable increases in landings of pelagic fish (21%), white fish (46%), and crustaceans (143%), but a decrease in cephalopod landings by 41%. Despite an 11% decrease in weight, the national value of marketed coastal and artisanal fishing products grew by 3% to over 9.98 billion DH in 2023.
