Spain has experienced a significant growth in its imports of fresh fruit and vegetables up to September 2024, with a 5% increase in volume and an 11% increase in value compared to the same period in the previous year. The total import volume reached 3.2 million tonnes, and the total value was 3.64 billion euros. Fresh vegetable imports saw a notable growth of 16% in volume and 18% in value, led by a 20% increase in potato imports and a 10% increase in tomato imports, despite a decrease in onion imports. On the other hand, fresh fruit imports saw a 4% decrease in volume but an 8% increase in value, totaling 1.6 million tonnes and 2,483 million euros, respectively. Avocados were the second most imported fruit after bananas, with a 4% increase in volume and a 21% increase in value. There was also a notable increase in the imports of pineapple and kiwi, while orange and apple imports saw a decline.
