The EU-4 region has seen a 7.2% increase in potato planted area, leading to a 6.9% rise in production, reaching 24.6 million tons. Despite this, potato prices have dropped by 20% compared to last year. The average yield in the four NEPG countries was slightly below the 5-year average and last year's indicator. The price of Dutch potatoes, however, saw an 18% increase in December, but is still 20% lower than last year. The potato farming industry in the EU is expressing concerns about sustainability, which could push small growers away, potentially leading to consolidation and more large-scale production.
