The Crop Protection Chairperson of the WUR Executive Board, Louise O. Fresco, recently received a delegation from Suriname, leading them through researchers in areas such as reducing crop protection products, climate policy, and residue analysis in fruit and vegetables. The delegation expressed interest in WUR's research, particularly in covered cultivation, which could reduce the use of plant protection products, as Suriname aims to increase the quality of vegetables for export. This visit is part of ongoing collaborations aimed at optimizing local processes, showing business investment opportunities, and enhancing sustainable food production and food safety in Suriname, which has been economically impacted by the corona crisis. WUR is hopeful to play a connecting role in these themes, signing an agreement with the ministry in the near future.
