Price Hike: Brazil calculates the real impact of new U.S. tariffs

The Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC) informed, through a statement released this Thursday (31), that approximately 44.6% of Brazilian exports to the United States were excluded from the additional 50% tariff, applied unilaterally by the U.S. government through an executive order signed on Wednesday (30). The list published by the White House includes about 700 products excluded from the measure, such as airplanes, cellulose, orange juice, oil, and iron ore. According to a preliminary survey by the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex/MDIC), the new tariff will affect 35.9% of Brazilian exports destined to the U.S., which corresponds to $14.5 billion in 2024. The products excluded from the coverage of the executive order represent 44.6% of the total exported, equivalent to $18 billion in the same period.
