Sheep meat prices have increased for the fourth month in a row, due to tight supplies in Oceania and strong demand from China and Southeast Asian countries. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations meat price index also increased for the fourth month in a row, averaging 96.0 points in January, an increase of 0.9 points (1.0%) compared to December 2020. The prices of all types of meat have been rising for some time, with poultry meat prices rising the most, especially Brazilian poultry meat, due to high global demand and limited exports from several European countries due to bird flu. Beef and pork prices increased slightly, despite China's significant purchases, as the world supply remained sufficient to meet demand.
