Peach producers in Bulgaria's Sliven region are expressing dissatisfaction with the purchase price of their produce, which they claim is lower than the cost of production. The current price is BGN 0.60 per kilogram, unchanged for the past 15-20 years, while the cost of operating peach farms, including wages and supplies, has increased. The situation is exacerbated by the mass import of cheaper peaches from Greece. This has led to a loss of profitability and hope for the future among young growers, and some may consider abandoning peach cultivation altogether. The farmers do not anticipate any intervention from the Ministry of Agriculture, as the market determines the price, and they are not optimistic about securing subsidies from Europe to offset their losses.
