[Korean Farmers' News Reporter Ikino] Recently, the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency (Director Choi Jeong-rok, hereinafter referred to as the Quarantine Agency) announced that, as a result of monitoring online sites for the distribution and sale of illegally imported livestock products since January of this year, 797 sites distributing and selling livestock products produced in countries with import bans, such as China and Thailand, were detected and subsequently blocked. The Quarantine Agency stated that, following the COVID-19 pandemic, the increase in online transactions by consumers has led to a rise in the illegal importation of quarantine items through online platforms. To prevent the domestic spread of foreign animal infectious diseases, the agency is monitoring the distribution and sale of illegally imported livestock products via online platforms.
