Rains affect management, but rice crops advance

The rice sowing in Rio Grande do Sul is in the final phase and has already reached about 97% of the area planned for the crop, according to the Conjunctural Information released by Emater/RS-Ascar this Thursday (1). The progress of the work occurred in a period marked by frequent and high-volume rains, which restricted field operations, especially in late planting areas and in the execution of cultural treatments. According to the survey, approximately 97% of the crops are in the vegetative development phase, while 3% have already entered the reproductive period, with the beginning of flowering in the earliest areas. The high cloudiness recorded throughout the period limited the use of solar radiation, reflecting in moderate vegetative growth in some regions, although the establishment of the crops is considered adequate.
