The Farmers' Union of Thai Giang Pho commune in Bac Ha district, Lao Cai province, has developed a model of interspersing rice cultivation with carp farming in terraced fields. This model has proven to be profitable, with carp fetching between 80,000 and 100,000 VND per kilogram. The local carp species, weighing about 0.5 - 0.6 kg, is well-adapted to the highland conditions and requires minimal care. The model has become a significant source of income for the local community, with an estimated earning of 25 million VND from farming carp on an area of one hectare. The carp not only serves as a food source but also helps control rice pests.
