Fish farmers in Rajshahi, Bangladesh, are experiencing a revival in fish trading activities following the easing of lockdown restrictions due to COVID-19. Despite challenges such as reduced market scope and significant price drops, the resumption of trade has led to a notable recovery in sales. However, the industry has been hit by substantial losses due to mass fish deaths from high day-temperatures and insufficient oxygen levels in ponds. Despite these setbacks, the district continues to lead in carp fish production, with an annual output of approximately 81,000 tonnes, and contributes significantly to the region's economy, employing around nine lakh people and potentially generating up to Taka 1,620 crore per year.
