Vietnam's mulberry industry, ranking third globally in silk output, is facing challenges due to lack of planning, small-scale production, and weather dependency. The industry aims to reach a mulberry area of 13,210 hectares and a silk output of about 2,000 tons per year by 2022. However, growth requires importing silkworm eggs from China, mechanizing production, and applying technical advances. Lam Dong province, a significant contributor to the industry, has proposed working with Chinese authorities to facilitate silkworm egg imports and find other suppliers to reduce dependency on China. The ultimate goal is to increase the mulberry area to 15,000 hectares and export value to 150 million USD per year by 2025.
