Rapeseed: News and panorama of the crop in Argentina, South America and the world

Rapeseed is the second largest oilseed harvested worldwide, behind soybeans. From the winter-spring cycle, with various uses and high potential in our country, internationally it is mostly processed for human consumption of oils and use in biodiesel, in addition to the use of its flours and pellets for animal feed. Although there are records of rapeseed production in our country since the 1930s, according to INTA, it was not until 1997 that this crop was uninterruptedly harvested in our country. A century ago, what we call rapeseed today was commonly called turnip. To date, the 2021/22 rapeseed campaign in Argentina is close to 53,000 tons of production, almost triple that of last season. More acreage and more yields once again give impetus to the national rapeseed production, although the numbers are still below the historical production maximums of the year 2012/13.
