Uruguay is the largest rapeseed producer in South America, planting over 250,000 hectares this year, a record high despite water deficit issues. This is driven by European demand and the international market. The country started producing rapeseed for biofuel in 2012 and later started exporting it, primarily to Europe. This year, Uruguay is projected to export around 300,000 tons, mostly to the UK, and is looking to expand into new markets like Chile and Mexico.
