The Deputy for Food and Agribusiness of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs in Indonesia, Dida Gardera, has called on the European Union, especially the UK, to support Indonesian palm oil due to its sustainability practices. Indonesia has issued the Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certification since 2011 to prove sustainability and build trust. In addition to palm oil, Indonesia is also focusing on the development of products from other plantation commodities like cocoa. British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste, Dominic Jermey, has expressed the need for collaboration in clean energy transition, reversing biodiversity decline, and increasing climate funding. Since 2012, the implementation of the ISPO certification has aimed to increase the competitiveness of Indonesian palm oil globally while ensuring sustainable production.
